tableau

A tableau pile is a pile of tiles where building (or packing) is usually permitted.  Tiles may be packed on the exposed tile of each pile, according to rules that vary from game to game.  Usually the game begins with a certain number of tiles in each pile.  When all the tiles in a tableau pile have been played elsewhere, there is usually a rule about whether or what kind of tiles can be moved to the empty space.
